Warm weather is here, and while spring means a time of growth and renewal, summer brings a different kind of blooming of new activities across the Refuge. As the Nature Center evolves throughout the seasons, so does the need for our dedicated volunteers.
From education to habitat restoration, there’s never a dull day for our volunteers! The warmer air ushered in butterflies, wildflowers, and…invasive species. Our volunteers man the front lines in the fight against privet, johnsongrass, and nandina — whether through manual removal with our Natural Guard group or growth and out-planting of beneficial natives with our greenhouse volunteers.
For those eager to make a deeper environmental impact on the community, we’re seeking naturalist docent volunteers who want to share their passion for nature with our public audience. Children on summer break are now visiting the Nature Center more regularly, and our volunteers help foster a budding passion for the outdoors in these young students. Conservation starts at home, and when you inspire young minds, you inspire the next generation of ecologists. Outreach events also take the Nature Center across the city to reach new audiences.
If you’d like to get involved in our volunteer efforts, sign up on our website. We’d love to have you be part of our growing Fort Worth Nature Center family.
