The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge recently welcomed Megan Halvorson as a Natural Resource Specialist.
Megan’s passion for conservation has taken her from the pine forests of the Bahamas to the rolling landscapes of the Midwest. She earned her B.S. in Environmental Conservation and Restoration from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, where she studied the endemic Bahamian pine through hands-on field research abroad.
Her professional path reflects a deep commitment to protecting native species and ecosystems. At the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Megan worked as a conservation biologist, contributing to research on two fascinating and rare reptiles: the eastern massasauga and timber rattlesnakes. Before that, she spent a summer at Fort McCoy, where she removed invasive species and supported native habitat restoration. Her experience also spans greenhouse work with native plants and the use of prescribed fire as a vital land management tool.
Beyond her scientific expertise, Megan exhibits an adventurous spirit and a love of the outdoors. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, and connecting with friends through online games.
We are excited to have Megan on board and appreciate the energy and knowledge she brings to the stewardship of our prairies, forests, and wildlife. Please join us in giving her a warm welcome to the Nature Center team!
