Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge Hire First Full-Time Executive Director

 

FORT WORTH, Texas (January 29, 2018) – After more than four decades preserving and protecting one of Fort Worth’s most beautiful natural resources, the Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge announce Haily Summerfordthe hiring of Haily Summerford as its first full-time executive director.

“Thanks to the board’s vision and leadership, financial support for this position recently became reality, and we were elated to find someone as experienced and mission-oriented as Haily Summerford,” said Friends Board President Chris Smith. “With her help, strategic efforts to improve recognition and raise funds will be strengthened, advancing our mission to preserve and protect this Fort Worth treasure.”

Haily comes to the Friends from the National Audubon Society with more than 25 years of experience in environmental education, conservation and nonprofit organizational leadership. She earned an Environmental Studies degree from Cornell College and an MBA from the University of Dallas in Not-for-Profit Management.

Beginning her career working with overnight camps at the Fort Worth Zoo, Haily later worked for Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in education, volunteer management and special event planning. She spent 11 years working for the City of Fort Worth in the Environmental Management Department, then to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Haily also served as director of public engagement for the Fort Worth ISD before joining Audubon.

Active within her profession, Haily currently serves on the Texas Children in Nature State Steering Committee in partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and also served as President of the Texas Association for Environmental Education. She is a former board member of the Informal Science Education Association and the Foundation for the Young Women’s Leadership Academy of Fort Worth.
